Radio stations across Iowa need your support! Help support "freedom of the airwaves" by writing to these three entities below encouraging them to eliminate the broadcast fees charged to radio stations in Iowa during the Girls and Boys State Tournament contests. Until 2006-07, radio stations throughout Iowa could broadcast their local teams during the State Tournaments without having to pay rights fees. Under the Iowa High School Sports Network, KZAT-FM will be forced to pay fees such as $150 per team, per game, per round for KZAT-FM sports announcers to provide the play by play of State Tournament athletic contests. Live internet streaming of KZAT's broadcast is not an option.
KZAT Radio joins a long list of other Iowa radio
stations who believe these fees are totally unwarranted, considering the
valuable daily, weekly and annual announcements given to school districts
within their broadcast area...all at no charge! You can help by
writing to the following entities and expressing your displeasure in forcing
local radio stations like KZAT to pay rights fees to broadcast state
tournament contests and disallowing local internet streaming of these
events. If you have any other thoughts, please direct those comments to Cathy Campbell Currier, General Manager at KZAT-FM.
